Are hospitalised acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease cases notified to the Western Australian Register in the Pilbara region? A retrospective review, 2016–2023

Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) are prevalent among First Nations peoples in Australia. In Western Australia (WA), notification of ARF and RHD to the WA RHD register is mandatory and supports follow-up care. However, previous studies from rural WA have reported incomplete notification, suggesting gaps in surveillance and hospital-registry linkage.

Healthcare professionals’ experiences involving Aboriginal families in the paediatric ESCALATION system

The Western Australian paediatric ESCALATION system, integrating family involvement, promotes early recognition and response to a hospitalised child's deteriorating health. Under Control? Mouse Models of Heat Exposure: A Systematic Review of Experimental Design and Methodology

Mouse models are widely used to study heat-related physiological responses as they provide insights relevant to human health. However, species differences (including nocturnal behavior) and standard housing below the thermoneutral zone (TNZ; 26°C-34°C) can confound comparisons. This systematic review evaluates methodologies, including housing temperatures, used in mouse heat-exposure studies published over the past 4 years.

Early Childhood Education and Care and Developmental Vulnerability at School Entry

Early childhood education and care (ECEC) is widely recognized for supporting children's development and school readiness; however, evidence from Western Australia remains limited.

Myeloablative Busulfan, Fludarabine and Melphalan Conditioning for Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Childhood Myeloid Malignancy

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) is a proven curative therapy for children with high-risk myeloid malignancies. Disease relapse, transplant-related mortality and graft versus host disease (GvHD) are the main causes of treatment failure and death post-transplant. The optimum pretransplant conditioning regimen is yet to be defined. There is limited data regarding the use of busulfan, fludarabine and melphalan as a myeloablative conditioning regimen in children receiving HSCT for myeloid malignancies.
